NewsFactor - The plan by the Federal Communications Commission chairman to reclassify the transmission of wired broadband as a "telecommunications service," announced Thursday, is running into opposition from some quarters, but support from others. On Friday, Chairman Julius Genachowski said that this reclassification would provide the "solid legal foundation" for implementing the agency's National Broadband Plan. It can also provide a basis for requiring broadband providers to not charge differently or censor for different kinds of content.
